Let's start our first blog post with some confessions. (It is always a good idea, right?) We never really planned to become professional tour guides. We are just two sisters who love their hometown - Hong Kong and enjoy showing their visiting friends around the world what it is truly like in our eyes.
Shortly after graduating from university, we joined a major airline as flight attendants. We flew around the world for several fun years, and one of the perks of being a flight attendant was that we had a lot of free time and annual leaves. We surely didn't waste our time! We were always exploring the world - joining tours in almost every major cities we flew to, staying and connecting with local people through a platform called Couch Surfing (we did that a lot when we were backpacking around Europe), and getting to learn more about the different cultures around the world through the eyes of the locals.
All these years of traveling made us realize one thing - despite their similarity because of geographical proximity or racial profile, each city has its unique charm and beauty in terms of its history, culture, way of life, and (very importantly to many!) food. This realization inspired us to tell our Hong Kong story to people visiting our hometown.
Until today, we still cherish the two days we spent with our Italian tour guide and her family in the hillside cottage of Lake Como. Paula not only shared with us the splendid history of Italy but also treated us like friends and showed us the authentic way of life of an average Italian family. Many guidebooks can tell you all about the history of one place. However, you don't get to experience the local way of life through the eyes of a local or have an in-depth discussion about the local people's challenges, hopes, and wishes.
This is why we were inspired to start Hong Kong Getaway Private Tours, with a simple wish to co-create the most memorable Hong Kong story with our guests. Every tour is customized to your needs and flexible to accommodate your interests and preferences. Talk to us today if you plan to visit Hong Kong; we hope to see you soon in Hong Kong!
